Ship of Fools – Terracotta Clay Sculpture Fantasy With Wheels & Tower

$2,500.00

Whimsical fantasy ship mounted on large wheels with tile roof.  This unglazed ceramic artwork showcases intricate hand-carved textures imitating a weathered wood grain hull with cannons, windows, a tiled roof, and a chimney tower. Several sculpted ghoulish crew figures with big hats peer out from the boat deck and windows, giving the piece a storybook or folklore-inspired character.

Clay sculptural inspiration & tribute to a San Francisco artist part of the 60’s California Funk Movement (artist unknown). This all terrain vessel invites multiple interpretations with historical & literary references from J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan & Robert Lewis Stevenson‘s Treasure Island. That is Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean imagery poking his head out the roof garden tower.

Crew includes the captain, 8 pirates (1 with a hook). Stowaways include dog, goat, hen, parrot and a warf rat.
