The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum, Inc., an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, holds the most important and comprehensive collection of American Railroad artifacts in the world. The Museum encompasses two National Historic Landmark sites: one in downtown Baltimore City, and the other in Ellicott City, Maryland. The Baltimore campus – spread across a 40 acre historic site – showcases its world-class collection of locomotives, rolling stock, artifacts and industrial buildings. Universally recognized as the birthplace of American Railroading, the first mile of commercial railroad right-of-way is preserved here. The Museum also administers Ellicott City Station, preserved as the oldest surviving railroad station in America (1831), featuring seasonal programs, living historians, and exhibits highlighting overland transportation, early railroading, and the American Civil War.

The B&O Railroad is a national brand and it’s historic footprint covers the territory Washington D.C. to New York, to Chicago to St. Louis. In addition to being branded for almost 100 years on the Monopoly game board it is a brand widely recognized. In addition, we are affiliated with the Smithsonian and also come with that branding. The Licensing Program at the B&O cultivates new relationships with companies who take their own unique ideas from our robust collection and turn those ideas into products. The Royalty Fees collected go directly back into maintaining the Museum and its extensive collection.
